CATHOLICON-AID

Company Description

Ongoing Activities . . .

Officially we commenced our services starting from early July 2023. We began to provide obstetric ultrasound services to pregnant IDP mothers. Even if we started to give the service to the IDPs, currently we are serving the host community as well.

Depending on the limitation of resources we are facing, we are only providing the service once per week and only in one place ( Midregenet IDP site). Although our goal is to extend the services in terms of service provision days per week and the places of service provision, we are still constrained by the limitation of resources. But still, we are trying our best to attain this goal. These, establishing a Micro, Small, and Medium Entrepreneur Center to empower youth and women in the communities we serve. The center will provide training and support for starting and growing small businesses in various sectors. We will work with local experts and business leaders to develop training programs that are tailored to the needs of the community

On the other hand we have commenced distributing stoma bags to Hospitals. So far we have distributed 300 stoma bags to Mekelle G.Hospital, 600 stoma bags to Ayder Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, 300 stoma bags to Suhul Shire Hospital, 400 stoma bags to Axum Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, and 270 stoma bags to Ahferom Meles P.Hospital.

Ongoing Activities . . .

With an average of 30 mothers per week, as of this new year (2024), we have delivered the service to 720 mothers and still counting.
Since the beginning of our operations, we have become a member of the regional health cluster meeting. Our involvement is not only attending the biweekly meetings but also reporting our weekly activities and presenting proposals to the house.

The other service we are providing is the provision of standard stoma bags to patients with GI stoma. As of the data we received from Tigray Regional Health Bureau, currently, there are 200 patients with permanent colostomy. Before we started to provide them with the standard colostomy bags, they had been caring for their stomas with locally produced ones. The locally produced are made from transparent plastic bags. Not only that but also the adhesive tape that is used to attach the skin with the plastic bag is irritant.

Comparing these two, the standard ones are skin-friendly and not transparent. As of the first week, we have reached a total of 40 patients and distributed a total of 400 standard stoma bags, 10 for each of them. And the service will continue this way and we will reach every single of them.

Ongoing Activities . . .

Catholicon-aid is on a mission to empower children, youth, and women by providing them with greater education, skill development, and employment possibilities. We want to improve community health by offering access to high-quality healthcare facilities. Besides, we aim to build a society in which every kid has access to education, every young person and woman has work opportunities, and every community member has access to decent healthcare.

As a strategy, we will partner with schools to provide educational support, such as scholarships, school supplies, and instructor training. We will conduct vocational training programs in collaboration with industry experts to provide hands‐on experience to participants. Also, we will establish healthcare centers in remote areas and provide medical equipment and supplies. This indicates that we will conduct health education programs in schools and communities to promote healthy habits.

Finally, we will promote eco‐friendly practices such as waste management, water conservation, and renewable energy sources. In such case, we will conduct research studies on community health issues and sharing the findings with relevant stakeholders to inform policy and practice.
